In 2007, St. Philip parishioners desired to create an outdoor area to follow the Way of the Cross, a devotion that is characterized by walking and meditation. At this time, the parish was located on a small 5-acre lot in Lewisville, but was able to dedicate some of its limited space for the devotion. A set of metal bas-relief images depicting each of the 14 Stations, as well as numerous commemorative brick pavers, were donated and placed in a reserved spot on the parish campus.
When St. Philip’s moved to our current location in 2022, the Stations of the Cross were packed and stored, and the paver commemorations carefully recorded, with the intention of restoring them in a worthy setting on the beautiful 40 acres of our new campus.
Our Project
The new Stations of the Cross Prayer Walk includes a wide, paved pathway that begins and ends at the Columbarium, traveling through the wooded corner of our campus. At intervals along the path, 14 shrines have been designed to showcase the original Stations. The area in front of each Station features a circle paved in bricks, where parish families may commemorate the names of loved ones. The plan also includes a special area for the statue of Our Lady which was brought over from the old parish campus.
I would like to donate to this project
I gave a Brick for the 2007 Prayer Garden
What will happen to the inscription from my brick? All of the inscriptions from the original 2007 Prayer Garden were recorded prior to our move, and will be engraved on new bricks as part of this plan. The 2007 commemorative bricks will be located in a new paved area around the statue of Mary.
St. Philip’s gratefully acknowledges the original commitment for these bricks; no additional commitment is required to recreate your 2007 brick.
Donations of new bricks are also welcome, as we expand this memorial opportunity to a new generation of St. Philip parishioners.
